The statuesque young woman trailing a step behind looked very familiar, with piercing blue eyes, long legs, a dusting of freckles. Except for the Auburn hair! The same face she sees every morning in the mirror!
Sapphire squeezes Arlo’s shoulder, “Busy!” he asserts. The ‘retinue’ is taking their seats; the apparent ‘primary’ is taking the center seat, and greeting the dealer. Sapphire frowns, and scans the table. ‘John’ gives her a questioning look, to which she jerks her head toward the ‘retinue’. “Clone!” she states, and strides in that direction.
Eyes locked, Sapphire sees the young woman make a fist, and press it into her left hand, look at her over-sized ring, and repeat the process. The ring begins to glow. She smiles, and begins to fiddle with the hem of her mini dress, extricating a pale white stay, fifteen to twenty centimetres in length, which rolls back onto itself. As she places the stay into her right hand, it snaps rigid to its full length, and begins to glow. She smiles, and turns to face the ‘primaries’ back.
“Hi!” says Sapphire, as she steps up to the woman. And cold cocks her.
She turns to look for John, as two of the body-guards tackle her.
‘Smart’ Stay
Basically a piece of ‘smart’ plastic, woven/inserted into a piece of clothing, that provides rigidity to said piece of wardrobe, i.e. whalebone in the 18th or 19th century.
Smart plastic is able to assume pretty much any shape that it’s ‘programmed’ with, when given a sufficiently powerful source of energy.
A ‘niche’ weapon to be sure, but, also a handy ‘hide-out’ for those desperate situations you may find yourself in.
I’m sure I’ve seen something about ‘smart’ plastic somewhere here on CoTI, but have been unable to locate it. So, here is my version.
