Double Star, Epsilon Cetus' Traveller location?

Tim

SOC-1
Double Star, the GDW boardgame, is set in Epsilon Cetus, a binary star system with an M8 and G0 stars. Where is this system located in the OTU?

There doesn't appear to be a real-life Epsilon Cetus, but there is a binary Epsilon Ceti binary which is a pair of F/ G class stars so doesn't match the description of Epsilon Cetus. In Aliens Module 6, Aslan and Solomani, Gashidda is Epsilon Ceti, but Gashidda is only a single star system, not a binary star system. https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Gashidda_(world)/meta

There is also a Double Star named system, but it has two M1 stars. https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Double_Star_(world)

Is there a canon reference where the Chinese and Islamic space missions landed?

Double Star is, unfortunately, not part of Traveller canon.

That said there is no reason you couldn't put it either within the Solomani Sphere or a bit beyond its border.

There are three systems in the Rim that are close-ish:
  • Alpher (SOLO 2703 A866997-E) - G0 V M2 V
  • Yrsai (SOLO 0511 A663A9B-F) - G0 V M5 V
  • Sathyos (SOLO 2911 A579726-D) - G0 V M3 V
All three would have fallen inside the Vilani First Imperium so wouldn't be great targets for Terran colonization, but I don't think there's much existing canon for any of them. Both Alpher and Yrsai would be approximately in the right direction of Cetus, for whatever that's worth.

There's an exact match in Magyar:
  • Relatte (MAGY 1003 A857432-D) - G0 V M8 V
No canon information, but outside Vilani space and falls in a general area colonized by Terrans during and after the Interstellar Wars period, looks fairly habitable, and is approximately in the right direction.

Thanks for providing some possible locations. Where was it stated that Double Star was not part of the Traveller canon? I know it wasn't included int the Boardgames reprint booklet. Also how did you locate these possible star systems? Is there a star search capability or was it through text searches?

Just a text search for "G0 V M" in sector data for Magyar and the Rim.

Thanks again. Wondering if the Double Star Epsilon Cetus system was intended to be a fictional star rather than related to the real world, Epsilon Ceti.

Most likely so, since any real star in the Cetus constellation would use the Latin genitive declension Ceti (“of Cetus”) in its Bayer designation.
