After the Collapse of the last Superpower a league of Grate Powers (all Economically Developed Liberal Democracies) would arise, finishing the cleaning up the Ecological and Economic Mess of the 20th Century (as best they could, the work continues) the League would form their own Space Agency to allow the Nation States to regain control of the Solar System from Private Industry and Finance and their "Resource Exploitation Corporations".

Building on the technology of the Third Space Race a European Scientist who in his youth had worked for NASA before the American Collapse was able to prefect both Gravity Modification and "Acceleration Drive" technologies, being at the end of his life he gifted the patient to the League who would use their control of the technologies to deal near mortal wounds to the shadow empires of the remaining Plutocrats freeing much of the solar system from their control. Once free of Solar Gravity the Acceleration Drive would prove a viable method of FTL Travel.

Today the League and their Space Agency still curtails the Plutocrats on Earth and in the Sol System wile it also conducts peaceful Exploration, Servery and Scientific expeditions in distant star systems paving the way for league colonization efforts, further wile sneaking out intelligent alien life (that they are yet to find) to conduct mutually beneficial Cultural, Scientific and Economic exchanges with.


I plan to use a modified Classic or Mega Travller engine, so the tables will remain the same. the Stats will remain the same but Soc will incited become "Social Aptitude" and reflect E.Q. Charisma and Leadership qualities. Instead of Services there will instead be the various branches of the LSA, these will be Flight, Mission Specialist, (C&C) Engendering & Geo Sciences, Ship Crew, Bio & Eco Sciences and Security & Intelligence

First term skills
Basic Training: Environment Suit -1, Computer -0, EVA -0, Rover -0
AIT: 2 skills rolled on the choice of Personal Development or Branch Skills
Additional Training: 1 Skill on success, rolled on the Branch Skills or Additional Training Skills
Special Training: 1 Skill on Success rolled on Special Training

Subsequent Terms
Experience: 1 Skill on Success rolled on Personal Development or Branch Skills
Additional Training: 1 Skill on success, rolled on the Branch Skills or Additional Training Skills
Special Training: 1 Skill on Success rolled on Special Training
Note: you can receive a Maximum of two skills per term, but can elect to roll for both Additional and Spechial Training successes to allow you to choose from a wider selection of Skill Tables and to achieve grater seniority (Rank).

Rank: one Grade of Seniority for each Success rolled in Terms. Success on Enlistment earns Rank 0.
 
I’m of the same mindset re SOC. Since I also hijacked some of the interaction skills from MgT to shoehorn into CT, it really pops as a base stat.

However there are still situations where SOC in the original sense is useful or needed for chargen, and also how mustering out will work.

For societal rank EDU works for me.

Noble generation can go two ways- use the chargen as is and Nobles are less titled class and more powerful charismatic or political or manipulative or celebrity figures, or EDU is substituted for all qualifying rolls/titles.

For mustering out I would make EDU and SOC results interchangeable.

Are you going LBB4 levels of skills with LBB1 type gen?
 
My houserules:
physical stats - strength, agility, endurance
mental stats - intelligence, perception, determination

social - social standing, education, terms served

talents - conflict, communication, empathy.

skills - - - not listing them all but it is a short list.
 
In this setting you can retiree at 50 and live past 100, for the most part Inherited Wealth is a thing of the history books, Public Universities match all but the most Elite Private Universities and Government Scholarships & Grants mean someone with the right grades will get in to them faster than someone with a fat bank account. parentage counts for little if anything away from Earth and the older Habitats, even there it's not worth much, the few remaining noble titles are nothing more than quaint antiques and affiliations. Social Standing is a product of Achievement, Self Earned Wealth and Personal Sociability. Generational Wealth is making a comeback for the Characters Generation but it will be fifty years or more before they will see it.

Who your Mummy and Daddy are is worth less than your solid waste when you are doing a group reenactment of the Martian orbiting a distant star.

Skills are going to be LBB-1 & Sup-4 as far as levels are concerned, but I'll be adapting skills from most Classic and Mega books, for the basic game I'm also restricting Terms to three. with three Grades to a Rank the best a starting player can hope for is the bottom of rank three if they make all their success in character generation.

I added charisma like TNE did, and refactored the cascade tables for my MT house rules... I've also a decoration throw and contacts.
Contacts 1 per term, +1 for first term, +1 per special duty, +1 per Bonus Skill, Essentially, I modified the PM's first half.
 
I can see the old school appeal of charisma, just think it’s a little one sided in the multifaceted means that people influence others.
 
Soc is more than just Charisma, it is your E.Q. and empathy, so it helps you read social cues and helps act as a BS Detector as well as influence others
