I don't think that would work. All ants are female, and all in a nest are virtually identical, not to mention sisters. The one drone is for reproduction and nothing else. If anything, ants are already successful Communists...

I would imagine that more likely for termites, since they can build arcologies.

I imagine it would depend on what world is creating the colony. What's the source worlds TL? Culture? Available resources? Once you know what can be thrown at the colonization issues, you can scour the above ideas for how things get set up.
